Mark your calendars for the Signal Mountain Playhouse’s summer show! Lionel Bart’s “Oliver!” opens Friday, July 10, for what promises to be another magical season at our beloved amphitheater in the woods.
Performances run July 10-11, 16-18, and 23-25. Note that this year’s show runs three weekends instead of four, and includes two Thursday night shows - a fun new twist for 2026! As always, curtain is at 8 p.m., but the box office opens at 6 p.m. for those who want to arrive early and choose their spots. Tickets are $5 for children 12 and under and $15 for all others. The Playhouse accepts cash, checks, or Venmo - on site only.
The beautiful Playhouse amphitheater sits at the corner of Rolling Way and James Boulevard, with the entrance on Rolling Way. Be sure to bring your lawn chairs, as the hillside is terraced with hard stone. Concessions including pizza, popcorn, soft drinks, and candy will be available, and Porta Potties are on site and accessible. Parking is available around Signal Mountain Town Hall, with handicapped spaces on the grounds.
Director Garry Posey could not be more excited about this year’s cast. Headlining as Oliver Twist is Foster Chapman; Andrew Parker takes on the iconic role of Fagin; Helen Tibbs plays the Artful Dodger; Arden Rose is Nancy; and Derrick Raley is the menacing Bill Sikes. From longtime Playhouse alums to fresh newcomers, the full cast is brimming with talent and ready to deliver a truly magical evening.
“Oliver!” is based on Charles Dickens’s “Oliver Twist,” the story of a young orphan who escapes the workhouse only to fall in with a band of pickpockets in the streets of Victorian London. It’s a tale of struggle, belonging, and the enduring hope of finding a place to call home.
The beloved score is in wonderful hands. Singers are guided by music director and accompanist Margaret Cooke, and Playhouse orchestra conductor Nicholas Hartline returns to the podium. The show features favorites including “Food, Glorious Food,” “Consider Yourself,” “I’d Do Anything,” and many more. Choreographer Amanda West brings her signature energy back to the stage, bringing these timeless songs to life with movement as joyful as the music itself.
