2nd Annual McCoy Farm & Gardens Egg Roll Is March 24
The Second Annual Egg Roll at McCoy Farm and Gardens is set for Sunday, March 24, from 2-4 p.m.
It’s an “egg roll,” of course, so everyone needs eggs to roll. The McCoy eggs feature a charming painted design this year. In addition, they will make very special keepsakes, since they are made by Wells Wood Turning, a family business located in Buckfield, Maine. The Wells are the same craftsmen who make the eggs for the White House Easter festivities.
Each commemorative hardwood egg with an activities punch-card is $10. The price includes opportunities to join in an egg roll contest and a spoon obstacle course, both of which require an egg to participate. Those who join in the games and have their cards punched as they play will receive prizes.
The Easter Bunny will greet kids of all ages and pose for pictures. Lemonade, cotton candy, and kettle corn will be available for purchase. Enjoy other activities like face painting, hair painting, and decorating cookies that will be supplied by the Cookie Lady.
Organizing and leading all the fun activities are board member Anne Leonard, and special events co-chairs, Mary Catherine O’Kelley, and Annette Wildman. For more information, please call (423) 598-1658.
Just for Fun
Something new has been added for the enjoyment of all at the Egg Roll - including pets. McCoy Farm and Gardens is known to welcome well-mannered dogs on leashes as they visit with their human families.
Beginning at 3:45 p.m., the McCoy Mutts Easter Parade will highlight leashed, well-behaved dogs as they stroll the driveway dressed in their best finery. This is a “non-judgmental” parade, meaning the mutts will not be judged for their appearance or costume, but will be appreciated for their flair and aplomb. Bring your dog in costume and meet at the Carriage House at 3:30 p.m. The Mutt Parade will proceed along the driveway where everyone can celebrate them as they pass.
The Bachman McCoy House will be open for tours, and McCoy branded merchandise and Emma Bell Miles-art related items will be for sale. In the dining room, spring-themed china and accessories will be on display for purchase. All proceeds are used to support McCoy facilities and programming.
Any questions, please contact Karen Stone at karenstone@waldenhouse.com or 423-886-2721.

School News & Information
Signal Mountain was founded 100 years ago, and the town is ready for its festive Centennial Anniversary! Now is a great time to reflect on what our beloved town was like in 1919.
What was it like living in coal mining communities on Signal Mountain? There was no running water or electricity in the mining communities, even by the 1920s. Primary schools, located near the mines, provided only basic education for the very youngest children. Far too soon, the young boys went to work in the mines along with their fathers, uncles and brothers. By the age of 40 or 50, most men had developed black lung disease and were too sick to continue working.
