Aiden Adkins and Maxwell Sewell have earned the Boy Scout’s highest rank advancement. Though much delayed due to various reasons, the Eagle Scout Award was presented to Adkins and Sewell on December 12, 2022, at the Mountain Arts Community Center. Members of Troop No. 176, chartered at Saint Augustine Catholic Church, Adkins, and Sewell are 2 of only approximately 6 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Rob Hall.
Clearly membership in the Boy Scouts of America has made a lifelong impact on these two Scouts. During the award ceremony at the MACC, Sewell said that he was “appreciative of this organization that grew me up and changed my life.” Adkins said, “This was a long and rewarding journey that has given him memories that will be cherished forever.”
To achieve this rank, each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community, church, or synagogue-related service project. Sewell chose to build a path through the woods at the MACC, and Adkins chose to build a spirit shop at Signal Mountain Middle High School. Both projects were well received and will be appreciated by the community through the years. Max is the son of Rusty and Francene Sewell, and Aiden is the son of Jerry and Chastity Adkins.
The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating in citizenship, and develops personal fitness. For over a century, the BSA has helped build the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. The Boy Scouts of America believes - and, through over a century of experience, knows - that helping youth is a key to building a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.
