This year, the Signal Mountain Youth Flag Football league began its 25th season with July’s registration. A second registration on Saturday, August 3, at the Town Hall Gym will be followed by the sixth Annual Rookie Clinic on Thursday, August 8, from 6-7:30 p.m., at Hedges Field. The clinic is free and open to any kids who are new to the sport. The co-ed league is open to all kids K-5th grade. Cleats, sport shorts or pants are required, and a mouthpiece is recommended. Jerseys and flag belts are provided.
Evaluations and the last chance for registration will be Saturday, August 10, at Hedges Field. Please check SignalFootball.com for Evaluation times. It is essential that everyone is evaluated so that the draft has an equitable talent distribution. Registrations before August 10 incur a league fee of $110. Registrations on August 10 incur a league fee of $130. Registrations AFTER August 10 (if there are openings) incur a league fee of $150. Non-town residents will also need to pay the Signal Mountain Town fee of $35 per family.
The coaches will draft teams on Sunday, August 11. Those wishing to head coach or be a designated assistant coach should register as coaches at SignalFootball.com and complete the concussion training requirements. Coaches must also work the Evaluations and Academy Practice.
Academy Practice will be Monday, August 12, (see website for times) and is required for every player. This special practice ensures every player has very basic, fundamental instruction and thus, a standard of knowledge of skills. If this practice is missed, a player is immediately behind. At the end of Academy Practice, teams are revealed and your coach will let you know when your first practice will be, but it is safe to assume that it will likely be Tuesday or Thursday.
Team Practice starts Tuesday, August 13. The Labor Day Jamboree will be Saturday, August 31. Each team will play a 12-minute, running-clock quarter under game conditions. The regular season will begin the following week, September 7. Fall Break weekends (October 5 and 12) will have no games. Playoffs will be November 16, and Champions Day will be November 23.
